The School of Biological Sciences at the University of Utah invites applications for a full-time career-line instructional faculty member. We seek a talented, motivated, and collaborative individual with a PhD and experience in teaching cell and molecular biology.

The successful candidate will join an established group of instructors responsible for a first-year lecture course (Biology 1610, Fundamental Principles in Biology I), which covers introductory cell biology, molecular biology and genetics. The responsibilities of the new instructor will include the following:
    · Teaching two sections of Biology 1610 in the fall and spring semesters, with typical enrollments of 200-300 students per section.
    · Meeting regularly with other instructors of the course, training and overseeing teaching assistants and grading.
    · Contributing to ongoing review of the course content and instructional methods, in collaboration with other instructors and the department curriculum committee.
    · Serving on department committees, collaborating with staff and other teaching resources on campus, and participating in department meetings.
Opportunities to teach other courses may become available, depending on curriculum needs.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biology, or a related field and demonstrated success in teaching college courses in biology. Postdoctoral research experience is strongly preferred. Other desirable qualifications include:

    · Demonstrated ability to incorporate the scientific method in the development of instructional materials and the use of pedagogical methods that address success in learning.
    · A passion for mentoring undergraduates in Biology and training TAs in modern teaching approaches.
    · A commitment to employing inclusive practices to support a diverse student population.

Instruction will start for Fall Semester 2023 on August 21st, but we hope to have the make appointment effective during the summer, so that the new instructor can participate in course review and development.

Applicants should submit: (1) a cover letter with contact information, (2) a CV, (3) a statement of teaching experience and interests. Applicants should provide name and contact information of three reference providers for letters of recommendation that will be requested by the University of Utah.
