Reporting to the CATE Executive Director, the Associate Director for Educational Development will engage UIC instructors in professional learning opportunities that advance student-centered, inclusive, and innovative teaching practices. Responsibilities include developing and deploying online resources, consultation services, and programs such as workshops and webinars that are grounded in learning theory and empirical research. Key CATE programs administered by the Associate Director for Educational Development include the Preparing to Teach Academy, the Inclusive Education Scholars Certificate Program (IESCP), and the Teaching Tidbits Workshops. The Associate Director will engage subject matter experts from across the disciplines to tailor these and other new pedagogical training programs in ways that motivate instructor participation and align with departmental needs and instructional contexts. The Associate Director will advocate for adoption of teaching methods effective in supporting diverse learners and also will facilitate instructor participation in communities of practice as a means to sustain engagement and deepen pedagogical knowledge and skills. In addition, the Associate Director will collaborate with campus partners to launch new initiatives that promote and celebrate teaching excellence and instructional innovation across multiple modalities of instruction (e.g., on campus, online, hybrid).

This position is a full-time, 12-month appointment, with a salary range from $85,000 to $95,000, commensurate with experience. Candidates for the Associate Director for Educational Development must have a PhD or other terminal degree in an academic discipline; 1-2 years of professional experience (or relevant postdoctoral experience) in teaching and curriculum development at the university level; ability to apply research and learning theory in delivering pedagogical training to large, diverse groups of instructors; ability to work independently, managing time effectively and meeting deadlines; skill as a productive, constructive team member with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Experience in academic administration in college or university setting preferred. Must be available to work hybrid schedule.

For fullest consideration, please complete an electronic application, including a 1-2 page letter of interest summarizing qualifications and motivation to apply for the position, curriculum vitae, a 1-2 page teaching statement, a 1-2 page diversity statement addressing matters relevant to the UIC context and the lived experiences of UIC students, and the names and contact information for three professional references. Candidates may also submit up to five pages in materials from their professional portfolio that they feel would assist the search committee with an evaluation of their application.
