Syracuse University, a Carnegie R1 research-intensive institution committed to being a University welcoming to all, is searching for several Faculty Fellows to significantly expand our efforts in Discipline-based Education Research (DBER). The Faculty Fellows will play a key role in the University’s STEM education and workforce development activities, which have been accelerated by the recent investments in advanced manufacturing in Central New York through the Federal Chips+Science Act and the arrival of Micron Technology Inc.

Through their participation in the Syracuse University Inclusive Excellence CHANcE Project funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the DBER Faculty Fellows will contribute to the University’s substantial investment in developing an inclusive environment for persons historically excluded in STEM, and first-generation students. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM is required.

The DBER Faculty Fellows will contribute to creating a diverse and inclusive STEMworkforce through research and scholarship in DBER, and pursuing related activities such as: teaching and professional development in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics; professional development for faculty; development of High Impact Practices and active learning pedagogies; inclusive and cohort-building practices; developing evidence-based recommendations for interventions for students considering leaving STEM careers; and studying the use of course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs). The Faculty Fellows will be responsible for teaching one class in their discipline each year and may elect to teach a second class, if appropriate for their career development.
