Position Description: 

Dr. Carrie Jo Bucklin, Assistant Professor in Biology Education Research in the Department of Biology at Texas State University, is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral researcher (24-month appointment), starting November 15, 2023, with potential to start earlier. Applications will be accepted from early career scholars (≤ four years post Ph.D.). Preference will be given to those with skills in mixed-methods data collection and analysis (experience with psychometric statistical analysis preferred), research expertise in formal learning environments, and a track record of peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Bucklin’s lab focuses on the impacts of authentic research experiences (undergraduate and/or graduate) on student learning, STEM retention, and higher education retention. Currently the lab focuses on Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) but may include authentic research experiences in any education level (e.g., Graduate, High School). The post-doctoral researcher will be the co-author on multiple research papers regarding the impact of CUREs including but not limited to a) changes in student’s attitudes, b) student’s perceptions of course activities, c) student learning outcomes, and d) student persistence. Additionally, the post-doctoral scholar will have the option to be the co-PI on future grant proposals and additional publications. Duties include conducting literature reviews, data analysis, and contributing to the writing and dissemination of educational research findings.

The candidate will be expected to lead or assist with grant proposal writing, study design and data collection, peer-review publication, student mentoring, and other duties as assigned. The pay range is $50,000.00 – $55,000.00 based on the available budget and the candidate’s qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Biology (or closely related field) with an emphasis in Discipline-Based Education Research within the last four years.
• Proficiency in mixed-methods research.
• Proficiency in writing and speaking in the English Language.
• Proactive in starting and completing projects.
• Willingness to travel to present findings.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Expertise in Discipline-Based Education Research.
• Track record of peer-reviewed publications.
• Proficiency in quantitative methods.
• Previous teaching experience is preferred.
