Guilford College invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2024. The Biology Department at Guilford employs experiential, inquiry-based learning to stimulate academic excellence through independent thinking, interdisciplinary applications, and critical analysis to develop tomorrow’s leaders in the sciences. A PhD with specialization in Microbiology with laboratory and/or field-based research is preferred. The successful candidate will teach Microbiology and Introductory Biology as well as additional courses in their area of expertise. The candidate will also be expected to mentor student research projects and supervise internships.   The department would like to consider someone that bridges sub-disciplines such as an environmental microbiologist or plant pathophysiologist who could potentially teach both cell and field related subjects. Priority will be given to candidates with the potential to contribute to other programs, including Sustainable Food Systems and Environmental Studies. Opportunities to develop study away experiences and team-teach courses will also be available.

Guilford College seeks applications from people representative of diversity based on age, race, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, ethnicity, religion, national origin, career and life experiences, socioeconomic background, geographic roots, as well as members of the Religious Society of Friends. We wholeheartedly support Guilford College’s stated priority of being anti-racist and diverse. We specifically encourage applicants with identities, abilities and experiences that are underrepresented in higher education to apply. EOE/AA.
