The Division of Biological Sciences at the University of Georgia invites applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer position to begin August 1, 2024. The position is a 9-month, full-time instructional appointment with the primary responsibility of teaching multiple sections of the course, BIOL 3110L Basic Skills in the Laboratory. BIOL 3110L is an upper-level, writing-intensive, biology course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) that provides authentic research experiences to large numbers of students in a classroom setting. Students in this course participate in a research project to answer a scientific question with the potential of publishing the results.
Competitive candidates will have a proficiency in a variety of laboratory skills and techniques commonly used in biological research laboratories including, but not limited to: microvolume pipets; solution preparation; DNA production, purification, and analysis; protein expression and purification; interpreting and performing laboratory protocols; bacterial culturing; and communicating scientific information to the public. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, dynamic, and forward-thinking group of faculty engaged in undergraduate and graduate instruction. The University of Georgia is also home to the SEER Center (Scientists Engaged in Education Research) which supports collaborations among scientists and educators across campus to improve undergraduate STEM instruction. Candidates should demonstrate potential for delivering quality instruction as evidenced by prior teaching at the undergraduate level. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated ability to teach the skills and techniques using evidence-based pedagogical practices associated with experiential learning in a CURE setting at the undergraduate level. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated a clear interest and willingness to work with other faculty to improve undergraduate biology instruction across programs.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related field
