The Department of Life Science Core Education at UCLA is hiring a Lecturer. This is a non-tenure track, teaching-focused position. This position may be full- or part-time.  A full-time position calls for teaching two classes per quarter, which may include fundamental classes for life science majors such as cell and molecular biology, genetics, physiology, and biodiversity (ecology, evolution, and organismal biology). More information about our courses can be found here: https://www.lscore.ucla.edu/courses/#ls7a. As a new lecturer, you will have the opportunity to work with our outstanding teaching faculty and our diverse students.  A Ph.D. in a biological discipline or an educational discipline in combination with a M.S. in a biological discipline is required for this position, although ABD candidates who expect to have completed their degree by the appointment start date will be considered.

A record of independent college teaching experience is desirable, but applications from recent graduates looking to make a transition to a career in teaching will be considered as well. Our courses are taught in-person during the academic year, and online during the summer.  The position can be for an initial period of 1 year with potential for renewal.  Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis and pool will remain active for one year. Screening of applications will take place as positions become available and continue until positions are filled.  The level of appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and duties.

    All interested candidates must submit:

    1. A cover letter that includes a summary of your teaching experience.
    2. A CV (including courses taught).
    3. A 2-page statement of teaching philosophy
    4. A 1-page diversity statement. The diversity statement should demonstrate the candidate’s commitment and capacity to contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching and mentoring.
    5. Any available evidence of teaching effectiveness (uploaded under "Misc/Additional")
    6. Contact information for at least 3 professional references, at least one of which must address the candidate’s potential as an educator. References will not be contacted for a letter until later in the process.

For full details about the application process please visit this website:  https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF08258

Application review will begin on April 1, 2023.

Send questions to: bethl@microbio.ucla.edu and include ‘LS Core Lecturer Search’ in the subject line.

    Please forward this opportunity widely!

    Thank you,
