    Concordia University is experiencing success in enrollment and retention - which creates a new position!  We have met over 100% of our goal for incoming new students and have a student body retention rate of 88%, an industry high level.  We are seeking a Biology Professor to bring our Arts & Sciences  area into the next generation of success!

    Position Summary: This position provides instruction in Biology, program and curriculum development, advising and mentoring of students, and marketing and recruitment for the BIology program as assigned by the Chair of the Natural Sciences Department. Term begins FALL 2024.

    General Duties:

    • Teaches Biology and Environmental Science courses as needed and directed by the Chair of the Natural Sciences Department.
    • Prepares course materials including syllabi, assignments, projects, and tests.
    • Evaluates student work and assign grades.
    • Provides support for curriculum and program assessment, growth and development in Biology.
    • Serves a leading role in the curriculum, program assessment, marketing, recruitment, and advising for the Environmental Science program.
    • Serves as an advisor for students in the Biology and Environmental Science programs.
    • Mentors students involved in research.
    • Provides leadership for student internships and job opportunities including maintaining and establishing contacts in business and industry.
    • Participates in campus activities and serves on faculty and institutional committees as assigned.
    • Perform administrative duties as assigned, such as serving on accreditation review committees, serving as building managers, assisting with chemical hygiene and safety efforts, and so forth.
    • Actively pursue scholarly and academic research activities.
    • Manage and maintain plants and animals needed for the program, as appropriate.
    • Manage and maintain the student study prairie.
    • The position will have an expectation of a Ph.D. in Biology or Environmental Science (or a related area) or a willingness to pursue a Ph.D. 
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in Biology or Environmental Science (or a closely related area) required.
    • Ph.D. in Biology or Environmental Science (or a closely related area) desired or a willingness to pursue a Ph.D. degree.
    • Successful teaching experience in Biology at the high school and university levels.
    • Successful student-friendly advising and mentoring experience at the high school or university level.
    • Familiarity with higher education, curriculum planning, course development, best teaching and administrative practices; or a record of excellence in teaching
    • Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse constituency both on and off-campus
    • Ability to communicate and mentor students in the Biology program.
    • Ability to provide a leading role in the maintenance and growth of the current Biology programs and the development of additional Biology and health career programs.

    Preferences

    • Knowledge and understanding of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
