    Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska seeks applications for a full-time faculty position in biology for the 2022-23 academic year. The faculty member will be expected to teach introductory organismal general biology, other courses for majors, and general education biology courses for non-majors. Preference will be given to candidates with an interest and the expertise to teach in one or more of the following areas: human anatomy and physiology, gross anatomy and cadaver dissection, and developmental biology. We encourage interested candidates with a background in other areas of biology to apply as well. The position requires participation in the recruitment and advisement of biology and pre-health professions majors and the use of an array of technologies in courses and laboratories.

    Responsibilities:

    • Teaches Biology courses as needed and directed by the Chair of the Natural and Computer Sciences Department.
    • Prepares course materials including syllabi, assignments, projects, and tests.
    • Evaluates student work and assigns grades.
    • Provides support for curriculum and program assessment, growth, and development in biology.
    • Serves a leading role in the marketing and recruitment for the biology program.
    • Serves as an advisor for students in the biology program.
    • Mentors students involved in research.
    • Provides leadership for student internships and job opportunities, including maintaining and establishing contacts in business and industry.
    • Participates in campus activities and serves on faculty and institutional committees as assigned.
    • Performs administrative duties as assigned, such as serving on accreditation review committees, serving as building managers, assisting with chemical hygiene and safety efforts, and so forth.
    • Actively pursues scholarly and academic research activities that are mutually beneficial.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Master’s degree in Biology (or closely related area) required.
    • Ph.D. in Biology (or a closely related area) desired or a willingness to pursue a Ph.D. degree in biology.

    Appropriate successful experience in the workplace or in a classroom that will lead to successful university-level teaching and mentoring in an acceptable subset of the following areas:

    • Successful teaching experience in Biology at the high school and university levels.
    • Successful student-friendly advising and mentoring experience at the university level.
    • Familiarity with higher education, curriculum planning, course development, best teaching and administrative practices; or a record of excellence in teaching.

     

    Additional Requirements

     

    • Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse constituency both on and off campus.
    • Ability to communicate and mentor students in the biology and health career programs.
    • Ability to provide a leading role in the maintenance and growth of the current biology programs and the development of additional biology and health career programs.
    • Knowledge and understanding of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

    Status of appointment, academic rank and salary will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.  Appointment will begin August 2022.  Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
