    Job Title:

    Course Coordinator (Instructional Design Specialist)

    Department:

    CLSE (Center for Life Sciences Education) Instructional Design Specialist collaborates in the development and coordination of introductory biology courses for majors, namely Biology 1113, 1113H, 1114, and 1114, and participates in all aspects of planning, implementation, and assessment for those courses; train, evaluate, and mentor graduate (GTA (Graduate Teaching Associate)), contract lecturers, and undergraduate (UTA) teaching associates in teaching methods; managing timely analysis of student performance on all course exercises; developing course materials for laboratory instruction and advising lecture instructors in their development of course assessments; Supports new faculty instructors in the development of their courses by employing principles of backward design and other evidence-based techniques; collaborate with instructional team to discuss student feedback and course redesign; working with faculty and staff to appropriately work within the course management system; leading weekly instructional meetings; and managing the scheduling of classroom spaces associated with major courses; collaborates and coordinates with the teaching lab preparator to maintain and supply lab rooms; communicates with community partners to promote student service projects; participates in and presents biology education research and pedagogy and biology education-related workshops offered at on- and off-campus sites, such as constituent units and the regional campuses; stays up to date on relevant biological education literature.

    Required: Master’s level degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in biology life sciences. Two years of relevant experience. One year of teaching experience at the collegiate level.

    Desired: Experience in student-centered biology teaching desired. Experience in teaching with critical inquiry pedagogical techniques.
